TGF-beta Family Receptor

TGF-beta family receptors are single pass serine/threonine kinase receptors for members of TGF-beta superfamily receptors. There are three types of TGF-beta family receptors: TGFβR1 (ALK-5), TGFβ2 and TGFβR3 (β-glycan). TGFβR1 (ALK5) and TGFβR2 have similar ligand-binding affinities and can be distinguished from each other only by peptide mapping. TGF-beta family receptor signaling regulates diverse cellular processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, cell plasticity and migration. Its dysfunctions can result in various kinds of diseases, such as cancer and tissue fibrosis.
