MIG/CXCL9 Protein Overview

Using a mouse Mig cDNA to screen a cDNA library prepared from cultures of the THP-1 human monocytic cell line that had been treated with interferon-gamma (IFNG; 147570), Farber (1993) identified human MIG. The MIG cDNA predicts a 125-amino acid protein, the first 22 residues of which comprise a signal peptide. The absence of a hydrophobic segment in the mature 103-amino acid protein is consistent with MIG being secreted rather than membrane-bound. MIG was induced in THP-1 cells and in peripheral blood mononuclear cells by interferon-gamma but not by interferon-alpha (147660) or lipopolysaccharide.
