CIDEA Protein Overview

DFF45 (601882) is a subunit of the DNA fragmentation factor (DFF) that is cleaved by caspase-3 (600636) during apoptosis. Inohara et al. (1998) identified 2 mammalian genes, CIDEA and CIDEB (604441), encoding highly related proteins with homology to the N-terminal region of DFF45. Wang et al. (2012) found that Cidea was highly expressed in epithelia, but not surrounding adipose tissue, in lactating mouse mammary glands. Cidea expression was low in mammary glands prior to pregnancy and during postlactational involution. Cidea was also expressed in isolated lactating mammary epithelial cells and isolated milk fat globules. A substantial portion of Cidea was detected in the nuclear fraction of lactating mammary glands and brown adipose tissue.
