Insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF receptor) is a cell surface receptor that is activated by a hormone called insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and by a related hormone called IGF-2. IGF-1 receptor signaling enhances cell proliferation and transformation, allows us to understand that hyperinsulinemia and increased IGF-1 and IGF-2 concentrations may result in tumor growth.
IGF receptors are members of growth factor receptors and are implicated in several cancers, including breast, prostate, and lung cancers.
