ZIKV Nonstructural protein 5 Proteins, cDNA Clones Research Reagents
Zika virus (ZIKV) belongs to the positive-sense single-stranded RNA-containing Flaviviridae family. It relies on its non-structural protein 5 (NS5) for capping and synthesis of the viral RNA. The viral NS5 protein is the largest (~100 kDa) and most conserved ZIKV protein, with 94% sequence identity between the two major ZIKV lineages: Asian and African. NS5 is comprised of two domains, an N-terminal methyltransferase domain and a RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) domain at the C-terminal end. It performs three essential roles in the viral life cycle: genome replication and capping, and interferon suppression.
Zika virus NS5 is involved in methytransferase and RNA guanylytransferase activities and capping and synthesis of RNA. And, NS5 is also an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
