MAPK3 (Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase 3, also known as ERK1; ERT2; ERK-1; PRKM3; P44ERK1; P44MAPK; HS44KDAP; HUMKER1A; p44-ERK1; p44-MAPK), located on 16p11.2, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, zebrafish, S.cerevisiae, K.lactis, E.gossypii, S.pombe, M.oryzae, N.crassa, A.thaliana, and rice. The gene produces a 43136 Da protein composed of 379 amino acids. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the MAP kinase family. Diseases such as Neutrophil Migration and Pertussis are associated with MAPK3. The related pathways of MAPK3 include Common Cytokine Receptor Gamma-Chain Family Signaling Pathways and GDNF-Family Ligands and Receptor Interactions.

    ERK1/MAPK3 Background

    MAPK3 (Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase 3, also known as ERK1) is a Protein Coding gene. The protein encoded by the ERK1 gene is a member of the MAP kinase family. 3 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported. The protein is a serine/threonine kinase which acts as an essential component of the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. MAPK1/ERK2 and MAPK3/ERK1 are the 2 MAPKs that play an important role in the MAPK/ERK cascade. They participate also in a signaling cascade initiated by activated KIT and KITLG/SCF. ERK1 is widely expressed in the small intestine, colon, and other tissues. Diseases associated with MAPK3 include Neutrophil Migration and Pertussis.
